Land Tours of British Isles

My wife and I are planning to tour England, Ireland,Scotland and possibly Wales in the summer of 2013. We are interested in a guided tour with hotels and some meals included. We have traveled in much of western and central Europe and are more interested in a well organized, small group tour than "fancy" hotels and "gourmet" meals. We would appreciate any information regarding tour companies, sights not to miss as well as best time to travel between June 1st and October 1st. If you have experience with the popular companies such as CIE Tours, Trafalgar, Eldertreks etc we would also be interested in hearing about your experiences.

Grand European Tours has an excellent trip to the subject area. They have a tendency to stay in one hotel for 2-3 nights and travel out to different destinations each day. This is fine if you do not wish to move and pack up every day. The con side is that you spend a great deal of time on the road leaving and returning to your hotel each day. Check it out. You may like the all inclusive tour which features an ex excellent itinerary and suitable accommodations all at a reasonable price.

We enjoyed an excellent trip with CIE Tours a number of years ago. Being an Irish company, both the tour guide and bus driver were very authentic and entertaining. We would highly recommend them.

We took a 21 day tour several years back with Insight. We had one of our best tour guides ever, Michael Glass, and because of our very good experience we went on another Insight tour and had another excellent guide. If they had a tour to an area that we wnted to visit they would probably be our first choice. Having said that, when we went to Greece we studied many brochures and took a tour with Grand European Tours and had a wonderful guide and we were entirely satisfied.

We used Trafalgar Tours for land tour of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland, it was about 2 weeks on motor coach. We stayed in comfortable hotels and some of the meals included entertainment. The tour guide was very good in explaining the historical significance of places we visited. for small group tour of Wales. You spend more time doing things rather than in the bus driving to the next place.
