Here are some highlights of an 11-day tour to Algeria I took Oct. 27-Nov. 6, 2007, with Adventures Abroad (1124 Fir Ave., Ste. 101, Blaine, WA 98230; 800/665-3998). The land price of $2,290 included dinners and breakfasts.
A friend and I spent two weeks in Romania and Bulgaria, May 25-June 7, 2007, with Adventures Abroad Worldwide Travel (800/665-3998). The land-only cost was $3,720.
I took a month-long tour to both North and South India with Adventures Abroad in February ’06. The basic cost of the tour was $4,870, but my total of $6,203 included single accommodation and an extra night in New Delhi pre-tour.
My wife, Dorothy, and I had been on safari in Africa on two previous occasions. The first was to Kenya and Tanzania, and it remains the best trip we ever experienced — and we have toured all the continents and over 60 countries. Our second was a walking safari through Zimbabwe and Zambia.
I returned from a 3-week tour of Ethiopia on Feb. 7, ’05. Imagine my surprise the next morning to find that a featured article (Feb. ’05, pg. 52) in my new ITN was about the Omo Valley, where I had just spent a week.
Many years ago I took my first trip with a travel company (which shall remained unnamed) and learned some hard lessons. It was a frustrating and expensive process, but it did pave the way for many other successful trips with very few unpleasant surprises.
