Recognized as one of the first permanent Norse settlers of Reykjavík, Iceland, Ingólfur Arnarson is believed to have settled on the west coast of Iceland in 874, along with his wife and foster brother. In commemoration of Ingólfur's position as one of Reykjavík's founders, a bronze statue of him — pictured in the mystery photo in our April 2019 issue — was erected in the city in 1924.

Solo traveler Edna R.S. Alvarez of Los Angeles, California, described showing up ahead of time at the assigned-seating dining room on an ocean cruise, requesting to be seated at a table with other travelers and being disappointed to end up by herself at a corner table.
A fire caused the roof and central spire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, to collapse on April 15. It is believed the fire was caused by an electrical fault associated with ongoing restoration work. Many of the cathedral’s treasures, including a relic of the crown of thorns, were saved. Sixteen historic bronze statues had been removed from the spire four days before the fire and are intact.
