Fiji's Bedarra Inn

In March ’03 we spent six nights at the Bedarra Inn (P.O. Box 1213 Sigatoka, FIJI; phone 679-6500476, fax 679-6520116 or e-mail bedarrahouse@connect.com.fj).

East of Sigatoka, this mansion-like inn is in a charming spot with ocean views from the balconies of some of the rooms (we had a lovely view). There is a pool. The rooms are air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans, fridges, cookers, etc. Prices ran about US$35 for two.

Breakfasts were very good, but the dinners were unexpectedly delicious. The chef was a real magician and we worked our way through as much of the dinner menu as we could. Lunch-sized meals were also available at night. We opted to not have meals included in our tariff and often walked to nearby cafés for lunch.

The bar attracted many of the part-time expatriates in the evening, and so we were able to meet a variety of people during our predinner cocktails.

The inn arranged tours daily and also shuttled travelers to and from the airport.

Friendly staff whisked away clothes to be laundered for US$2.50 a bin-load. Staff also played musical instruments and sang welcome and good-bye songs to guests and did it well.

We can recommend the Bedarra without question.
