For anyone needing transport between the Marco Polo Airport and Venice, Italy, the website of the Tourist Board of Venice has a very good presentation of the alternatives. Visit www.turismovenezia.it/eng. — G.F. MUEDEN, New York, NY
Nafplio was described in my guidebook as one of Greece’s prettiest towns, and even after such a buildup we were not disappointed when we visited. The first capital of Greece after its independence, today it is a peaceful seaside resort. We drove down to the seafront and selected a hotel, then walked over to the main square and watched kids playing soccer. We also drove up to Akronafplia fortress directly above the town. It is mostly in ruins but still interesting. There is a luxury hotel built into part of the ruins. There are spectacular views in every direction. — RICHARD BERNER, San Diego, CA
We love Buenos Aires. Wonderful steak dinners with wine can be had for a few dollars. Our smarTours trip in August ’03 included a fantastic tango show and a visit to a gaucho estancia. The gauchos are Argentinean cowboys. Although touristy, the estancia still felt authentic. The gauchos put on a show, gave us a lavish barbecue lunch, including wine and beer, and allowed people to ride horses and take carriage rides. — KEVIN O’BRIEN, Tybee Island, GA
Anyone considering traveling in Australia should get a good road map in the U.S. We did not and found good maps scarce. In touring southwest Australia, we had to piece together small maps from brochures and even Fodor’s for some of the drive. — GERDA K. FREEDHEIM, Cleveland, OH
