From the Malabar Hills in Mumbai, India, at night one catches a glimpse of “Queen Victoria’s Necklace.” This is Marine Drive, a curved roadway whose lights become the glittering “necklace.” The Bay View Bar was a good place from which to see this beautiful sight. — BETTY SILANDER, Ludington, MI

Apoyo Lagoon, in an ancient volcanic crater in Nicaragua, was absolutely beautiful. We had a wonderful lunch at the top of the rim and enjoyed the view. The water was deep blue in the bright sun. A young man was hang gliding, soaring with the birds. — PHYLLIS CORRIGAN, Valley City, OH

In Madagascar I toured a small factory where paper was made using fresh flowers for decoration. The ladies who delicately positioned petals and leaves on the wet paper were true artists. — KATHY COOPER, St. Clair Shores, MI

I’m glad we stayed overnight in Matera, Italy, during our visit one October. There was a much different atmosphere at night, almost eerie. It was my favorite place of the trip. The sassi (structures built out from cave openings) are in the center of the city. We later learned that Matera was one of the locations where Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” was filmed. — JUDY PFAFFENBERGER, Toledo, OH
