Hotel Elun in Frutillar, Chile

This was one of the best hotels we found during our month-long trip to Chile in March ’08.

The hotel is modern and well maintained, with a very pleasant staff. There’s a view of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano.

Rooms with facilities en suite plus twin beds run $70-$120 (breakfast included), depending on the season.

The food and service were excellent, with meals priced from CLP7,500 to CLP38,000 ($16-$80), but the harbor and mountain views were the very best part of the experience.

There was a separate, fully licensed bar which stocked regional beers and had a TV. Both the restaurant and bar were one floor up from the street.

In our four trips to South America, this place had the most modern (all marble) and cleanest bathrooms we found.
