Ilana Goor in Jaffa
This item appears on page 17 of the October 2012 issue.
At Jaffa port in 1740, a hostel was built for Jewish pilgrims entering the Holy Land en route to Jerusalem. In 1995 it opened to the public again as the Ilana Goor Museum & Gallery (4 Mazal Dagim St., Old Jaffa 68036, Israel; phone +03 6837676).
Boasting massive walls, arches and stonework, this building in Old Jaffa serves as the private home and gallery of Ilana Goor, a contemporary artist. In April ’11, my husband, Ray, and I found both the architecture and art to be worth a visit for anyone in the Tel Aviv area. Admission was free, and guided tours could be arranged.
