If you’re planning to visit the Greek island of Rhodes on your own, my husband, Don, and I can recommend the guide services of Manos Sabanis, the owner of Manos-Going Travel Agency (Hotel Bel Air, City of Rhodes, Isle of Rhodes, Greece 85101; phone/fax +30 22410 25418, e-mail info@manosgoing.com).

We found this young man through a rather random Internet search and contacted his agency in January ’13. Manos’ wife, Gunta, who accompanies many of his tours, responded promptly to our emails with suggestions on how we could see the sights in the few days we had for our April ’13 trip.

We arranged for transfers from the airport to our hotel and back again four days later and for a 2-hour orientation tour of the City of Rhodes on our first day plus a full-day tour including Lindos, Kritinia Castle and many other sites. Each trip included pickup from and return to our hotel. The charge for all these services was 263 (near $342) for the two of us.

Manos and Gunta have several vehicles (minivan, small bus, medium bus), all in excellent condition. They were always right on time and provided exactly what was promised. It was refreshing to have a worry-free experience.

Manos is knowledgeable about the history and landscape of his home island and was proud to share it with us. Both Manos (born on Rhodes) and Gunta (Latvian born) speak fluent English in addition to other languages. Most importantly, they were warm, friendly and willing to tailor our sightseeing to meet our interests and capabilities.

We compared the services of Manos-Going with local bus tours and with using taxi drivers and feel certain we got a much better deal. Anyone with questions may send us an email at eagern@sbcglobal.net.
