Priority Pass (800/352-2834, www.prioritypass.com), an independent airport lounge access program, provides frequent travelers with access to over 500 airport lounges in more than 275 cities worldwide, regardless of the traveler’s class of travel, the airline flown or existing membership in another frequent-flyer program.

Several membership levels are available, ranging from $99 per year (plus a $27-per-visit fee) to $399 per year (affording unlimited, free access).

Following a film on the time period, the flight, complete with period uniforms and music, goes along supply routes used during WWII. Flights are available on select dates from April to October 2008. €159 (near $236) adult; children up to 11, half price.

CORRECTION — ITN incorrectly reported (Feb. ’09, pg. 84) that Costa Rica had dropped its 3% hotel tax and was to replace it with a flat fee of $15 to be added to air tickets. The Costa Rican Consulate confirmed that that plan was not carried out and that the current exit fee of $26, to be paid at the airport upon departure, is the only fee being charged to tourists.

Every four years in Landshut, Germany, a historical pageant is held with about 5,000 participants dressed in period attire reenacting the celebrated 1475 wedding of Hedwig, a Polish princess, and Georg, a son of Landshut’s powerful Wittelsbach family. The 352-passenger Spirit of Adventure will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth with cruises to Central and South America in 2009, among them the 18-night “High Andes & Galápagos Adventure,” Feb. 21-March 10, 2009.

In August, the Transportation Security Administration imposed at U.S. airports an additional security screening of persons wearing head coverings such as turbans, scarves, cowboy hats or berets, and people who refused to remove them could be denied boarding. However, in October the guidelines were modified.
