Calling All Readers

ITN is presenting subscribers’ advice on renting vacation apartments (outside of the US). Last month we covered the advantages and disadvantages of renting. This month we’re listing the sources travelers use to find vacation rentals. In later issues, readers suggest questions to ask the property owner or rental agency, cover practical matters and give appraisals of specific apartments.

ITN asked, “Where have you had the best ice cream outside of the United States?” In the last two issues, subscribers have shared their favorite ice cream parlors in Italy and in the Western Hemisphere (sans USA). This month they take you around the world.

On the small island of Ile St-Louis, in the middle of the Seine River in PARIS, France, I tasted “the best ice cream in the world” during my May 2010 trip.

At 31 rue Saint Louis I found Berthillon (31 rue St Louis en l’ile, 75004 Paris, France; phone 01 43 54 31 61 [website in French only]). Berthillon ice cream is sold in...

In the first of our writing “contests” about inspiring destinations, we posed the question “What makes Madrid “Madrid”? From the responses received, it is clear this city makes for vivid memories. Is it worth the trip because the bridge itself is impressive in some way or because of the view from the span? Include your impressions plus any personal encounters or experiences. Is there anything someone should remember to take along to better enjoy a visit to...

Annie and Fred Dintzis of Peoria, Illinois, sent in a request: “We’d like to know how travelers with medical problems cope in different locations overseas. Please solicit readers’ experiences, comments and tips on dealing with diabetes, various allergies, high blood pressure, etc.”

So we invited each of you to write in. We limited any experiences cited to those outside of the US and requested the following: in describing any experience and the steps you took, include where you traveled and when your trip was. If discussing situations on airplanes, name the airline and the seating...
