Zanzibar, Tanzania

The State Department alerts travelers that past elections in Zanzibar, Tanzania, have featured violence during campaign seasons, especially in the days and weeks following elections.

General elections will be held in Zanzibar in October 2010. On northern Pemba Island, voter registration is expected to conclude on Dec. 14; caution is advised particularly in the districts of Wete and Micheweni.
