Six of us flew into London and took a cruise out of Dover in August ’12. Having never been to London, I spent quite a bit of time researching transportation.

An acquaintance in London suggested ExpressWays (103 Colney Hatch Ln., Muswell Hill, London, N10 1LR, U.K.; phone 08456 12 12 12, fax 020 8883 6142). I exchanged e-mails with and called ExpressWays to make the reservations. There were no upfront charges and we paid the drivers in cash.

The charge from Heathrow Airport to our London hotel in the SW1 area was £51 ($82) for four of us, £36 for two and £28 ($45) for one, and from our hotel to Heathrow, £35 ($56) for three. (The 2012 published taxi fare is £42-£80 ($67-$128) for up to five people.)

The transport charge from our hotel to the piers in Dover was £150 ($240) each way for six. (This compared to quotes of £230-£440 from other sources.)

We were very pleased with the price, the service and the people at ExpressWays. They were there on time, and it was just a pleasant experience.
