For the independent portion of a 6-week September-October 2012 China trip, I used Ctrip to book six hotels and four internal flights.
Spending about $50-$90 per night, I stayed in a couple of smaller guest-house places and in a nicer 4-star hotel. The hotels all were expecting me, and the rooms were as good as or better than advertised.
I flew on four airlines in China and was notified by e-mail of the one flight (on Xiamen Airlines) that had a time change.
Ctrip’s website is easy to use. I recommend their services.
