India through Indebo

My husband, David, and I took a wonderful 16-day trip to India planned and coordinated for us by Indebo. We worked through their US agent, Carole Herdegen (888/546-3421, carole@indebo.com), and Poora in their main New Delhi office.

For our trip, Jan. 11-29, 2013, we paid $3,309 per person plus $275 each for two internal flights. Most of our hotels were superior or deluxe.

Longtime ITN subscribers, we had emailed several ITN advertisers, and Indebo came back to us the quickest with the plan that most fit our needs at a very fair price.

And it did not disappoint! It was an amazing journey, completely problem free, with representatives from their local travel agencies meeting us at every stop; drivers with whom we felt very safe, and guides who were knowledgeable, interesting and very helpful.

India is, indeed, a fascinating country. The two words we kept using were “colorful chaos.” As one guide put it, “As Americans, you are used to much more order in your lives.” There was a lot going on all the time, day and night, and, upon returning, we found the quiet of home almost as disconcerting as the noise of India.

We were fortunate to see not one but two tigers on our safari in Ranthambore National Park. The boat ride at dawn on the River Ganges with just a guide and a boatman was not to be missed, nor was the magnificent Taj Mahal at sunset; our guide knew just where to position us for the perfect photos.

Though I was not as excited about going to India as my husband, it was an adventure I would not have wanted to miss. We highly recommend Indebo for a fascinating and enriching experience in India.
