My wife and I and seven friends traveled to Panama City, June 16-25, 2012, to do some volunteer work in the local area of Curundú.

During this trip, we stayed at the Panama Vacation Quarters (No. 26 Amelia Denis de Caza, Quarry Heights, Ancon/Balboa, Panama, Republica de Panama; phone [not for reservations] 011 507 314 1845 or, in the US, 800/633-4643 or 915/581-9388).

It’s located on Ancon Hill, a beautiful area higher up in the lush tropical forests, from where one can see both downtown Panama City with its high-rises as well as the canal area and the many ships waiting to traverse the Isthmus of Panama.

Because we were in Panama doing volunteer work, we were given a rate of about $23 per person per night at the PVQ*. In Panama, the US dollar is the official currency.
