Copán, Honduras

I traveled to Copán, Honduras, in October ’13 to visit the Copán Ruins, and I can highly recommend the hotel I stayed at, Hotel Marina Copán (Copán Ruinas, Honduras, C.A.; phone [504] 2651 4070, fax 2651 4477).
It was built in 1945 and has maintained its colonial architecture throughout. The 49 rooms are positioned along a maze of corridors, with a central pool area and lush gardens. Hotel amenities include a restaurant, bar, gift shop, pool, hot tub and free WiFi access.
The rooms, with air-conditioning and ceiling fans, were spacious and had large showers. Rates ranged from $95 for a single room to $250 per night for the presidential suite. An extensive breakfast buffet was available for an extra fee.
One of the added features of the hotel is its proximity to the central part of Copán Ruinas. The hotel is just half a block from the town’s main gathering place, Parque Central, the public square. Restaurants, shops, a simple whitewashed baroque-style church and a museum border the square.
The winding, cobblestone streets of Copán Ruinas offer a wide selection of restaurants and shops.
