Goree Island, Senegal

On a January-February tour of Senegal and The Gambia several years ago, my wife and I visited Goree Island, Senegal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island was once the point of contact for ships doing European and Caribbean trade. At the House of Slaves, they were eager to tell the story of the slave trade and show some of the quarters where slaves were held prior to being transported on ships to the New World. A place where much artwork is shown, the island was colorful.
