Who would expect there would be massage, let alone excellent massage, in Papua New Guinea?

As someone with low tolerance for so-so massage, I was surprised that, in Port Moresby, massages at the spa of the Airways Hotel (Jackson International Airport, Jacksons Parade, Port Moresby 121, Papua New Guinea; phone +675 324 5200, fax 325 0759, www.airways.com.pg) are always good, no matter which masseuse you get.

In May 2013, as travel manager for a tour company, I put my money where my thoughts were and gifted a free massage for everyone in our Highlands Show group. The price for a 50-minute massage was $60 per person.

It was a bit of a challenge to find appointments available (try to do this as far in advance as possible), but everyone said it was one of the best massages anywhere — not to die for but to live for.
