Shakespeare’s school

This item appears on page 4 of the May 2016 issue.

After extensive renovation, Shakespeare’s Schoolroom & Guildhall (Church St., Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, CV37 6HB, U.K.; www.shakespearesschoolroom.org) was scheduled to open to the public on April 23 (believed to be the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death).

The Tudor-style building, now known as King Edward VI School, was built in 1420 and is still a working school. Guides will lead visitors through an interactive tour, with a focus on Shakespeare’s early education and his family’s role in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Included in the tour is a restored schoolroom and a series of original medieval wall paintings in the guildhall.

Open daily 10 a.m. (11 a.m. on school days). Closing time was not posted as of press time. £8.90 (near $13) adult or £5.50 child.
