I cannot agree more with Rick Steves’ advice (Nov. ’16, pg. 53) regarding how to avoid waiting in line at various attractions throughout the world.

In advance of a tour in Italy more than two years ago, I purchased my ticket for the Uffizi Gallery (Piazzale degli Uffizi, 6, Firenze; www.uffizi.org) in Florence, Italy, through the Internet.

The cost of admission was fairly expensive, something like $28 plus a $7 fee that appeared separately on my credit card. However, the additional expense was money well spent, since I gained immediate access to the gallery, avoiding a seemingly endless line at the ticket office.

On the downside, to this day, I keep receiving emails with promotions for spending a weekend in Italy.

(I was just informed that the next time one of these emails appears in my inbox, I should look for a place on it where I can click “Unsubscribe.”)
