My husband, Jack, and I took a vacation to Russia, June 26-July 7, 2018, traveling on a 12-day river cruise offered by Value World Tours (Fountain Valley, CA; 800/795-1633, valueworldcruises.com). We had a fabulous experience both on and off the ship.

As for the cabins on the M/S Sergei Yesenin, only six suites were available on the sun deck, but they were brand new and well appointed. The pricing was great compared to that of other companies. We paid about $5,500 for two in an upgraded suite (No. 303).

The ship's staff was great. We were impressed with the ship's cleanliness. Three meals a day were provided.

Our tour director, Galia Saifulina, was outstanding. We also had knowledgeable, English-speaking local guides at each stop.

Sailing from Moscow, we stopped at the ports of Uglich, Yaroslavl, Goritzy, Kizhi, Mandrogi and St. Petersburg, several featuring UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The FIFA World Cup was taking place at the same time as our cruise, so everywhere there was a peaceful, happy "international soccer" spirit.

We passed through 18 locks — a fascinating experience. From big cities to small towns, Russia was a wonderful country to visit. This river cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg was perfect!
