A magnitude-6.3 earthquake struck western Iran on Nov. 25, injuring more than 700 people. The quake was also felt in Iraq, where one death was reported. Officials in Iran said that most of the injuries were minor and were caused by the stampede of people rushing to the street when the quake hit.

In August 2017, the same region was hit by the deadliest earthquake in Iran in decades, killing more than 600 people.
