Nearly 800,000 people were evacuated from cities in the southwest of Japan’s main Kyushu Island on July 3 due to the threat of landslides caused by heavy rains. The largest city in the region, Kagoshima, ordered the evacuation of its entire population of 606,800. Some minor landslides did occur, but, due to the precautions taken by authorities, there were no injuries reported in the region.
