Abu Dhabi mangrove boardwalk

This item appears on page 4 of the April 2020 issue.

More than 4.5 kilometers of boardwalk meander through a saltwater mangrove forest environment — home to numerous bird and aquatic species — in Jubail Mangrove Park (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; phone +971 56 303 2423, park.jubailisland.ae), which opened in January 2020 on the north shore of al-Jubail Island in the city of Abu Dhabi.

Points of interest along the boardwalk include a viewing tower; a floating platform on which visitors can walk on netting above the water, and a beach platform for wading. (Swimming is not allowed.) There is a visitors’ center and cafĂ©. Kayaks can be rented. Rangers are on site.

Closed during summer months, the park is open daily, 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Entry is free. During low tide, some boardwalk sections may only cross land; a tide chart is on the website.
