Typhoon strikes Japan

Typhoon Hagibis struck Japan on Oct. 12 with sustained winds of up to 140 miles per hour. At least 40 people were killed, with more still missing at press time.

The storm was the worst to hit the country in 40 years, causing widespread damage and flooding in south-central Japan. Up to 7 million people were forced to evacuate their homes during the storm. Tokyo was also hit but experienced little damage thanks to flood-control systems.
