I had wanted to visit Yemen for some time. Barbara Wagner of Lost Frontiers (Fairfax, CA; 888/508-2454 or www.lostfrontiers.com) assured me the trip was safe, and I signed up for a December ’04 tour ($3,650 for 21 days).
We asked you to tell us about any terrific candy or chocolate treats you have discovered overseas (outside of North America and the Caribbean).
Our 18-day tour of western Turkey with Cultural Folk Tours International (5631 Lincoln Ave., Ste. B, Cypress, CA 90630; 800/935-8875 or www. boraozkok.com) was all I had hoped for.
TURKEY I took the 19-day “Crossroads of Turkey” tour, Feb. 2-March 3, ’05, from Grand Circle Travel (Boston, MA) because it appeared to offer the most for the least money. I got more than I expected!
What books or movies inspired you to travel to another country (outside of North America and the Caribbean)? ITN asked that question and received many responses, which were printed in the June through September 2005 and February 2006 issues. Here are a few more.
My visit to the Republic of Georgia, May 13-June 19, ’05, was the perfect trip. The temperature was around 50º-68ºF. I would suggest taking a light, waterproof jacket and an umbrella, as rain can occur (although on this trip it was not heavy enough to interfere with sightseeing).
Dear reader, I am happy to say that people are reading my column. I’m getting nearly 20 questions a month, but, as mentioned before, I can only answer a few because of limitations on space and time.
